His Six Abodes around Chennai

This post is an interesting travelogue of my favorite deity Lord Muruga. He’s considered to be the god of this century[கலியுக கண் கண்ட கடவுள்]. He’s the god of Tamils and he’s powerful god for the one who believes him. There were six primary abodes in TamilNadu, that is Tirupparunkunram,Tiruchendur,Palani,Swamimalai,Tiruttani and Palamuthircholai.

But here I wanted to publish, the six prominent temples of this lord in and around Chennai, which is readily accessible to anyone stays in Chennai. I and my Mom are mad of this powerful God. He's known for his wisdom, beauty, vision etc., He's complete! What to say then!!!

I've added some travels tips mostly from my locality[Excuse for others], as I 've traveled almost all these abodes with my mom in weekends.

Vadapalani :- Its a very famous murugan temple in Chennai, and almost all people in Chennai, might 've gone once. He's the first and favorite god of mine in trouble. He's very powerful and there is a good magnetism with him. Its an ancient temple, which is been constructed 125 years ago and its now renovated and maintained very neat.

Deity Name: Swami Dhandayudhapani
How to Get there: From Chrompet, all MTC 70 series targets Vadapalani

Kundrathur:- Its another famous Murugan temple, near Pallavaram. Its also an ancient temple, which is built by King Kulothunga Chola-II. Here the specialty is the lord faces the North direction, where normally the statue faces Eastern direction.

How to Get there: From Chrompet, all buses to Poonamallee[MTC No.66] and Porur, goes via Kundrathur

Vallakottai :- Its also an ancient shrine of Lord Muruga, but very small village near Tambaram, which is away from Chennai. Interesting stories running about, how this temple has been formed. Another speciality is this temple's statue of Muruga, is the largest in height[5.7 feet] in India.

How to Get there: From Chrompet, we need to go to Sholinganallur and catch buses to Thiruporur[MTC No.568] or we can go to guindy and have buses to Kelambakkam[570] which goes via this temple

Thiruthani:- Even its an one among the main six abodes, its very near to Chennai and a accessible one. I'm yet to go to this temple and soon it will happen. Even its a powerful shrine as it's one of the prominent abodes of Lord Muruga.

Deity Name: Swami Thanikesan or Thanikaivel
How to Get there: From Chrompet, we need to have a transit journey to Koyambedu and need to take a bus to Thiruthani. All buses to Thirupathi are reachable

Kumaran Kundram:- Its a very small temple of Lord Muruga, which is situated in a hill. In evenings we can have a serene view of Chrompet and places around. Its a wonderful place to chill out too. Right choice to make a visit is at the evenings, when day breaks at the hill top with a nice breeze.
